A full, 4K remaster of TimeSplitters 2 was unseeable inside Homefront: The Revolution
Homefront: The Revolution's hidden TimeSplitters 2 remaking plainly included far more than the two levels we already knew about. Unfortunately, it seems the keys to access the full game were lost years ago in a Dissension ostracize.
That revelation came good manners of former Crytek developer Flat Phillips, responding to ex-Vlambeer interior designer JW Nijman's vociferation for developers to share easter eggs they'd hidden in games. On that point are any beauties in there too, from The Sectionalization's ninja turtles to Dragon Geezerhoo 2's whale cheese wheel.
But as Eurogamer spotted, Phillips replied with the trace that much more of Homefront's TimeSplitters throwback was intended to be playable—in native 4K, no less.
My proudest moment. Fully playable, native 4K port of TimeSplitters 2 hidden in this colonnade machine in Homefront: The Revolution. https://t.co/U0ulGEW1A1 pic.twitter.com/a4UsyOw7ehApril 4, 2021
Amply-featured really did mean full featured, too: "I ported the network stack to ride on upside of High frequency:TR's co-op mode. If, and that's a big if, anyone was able to hack cardinal or more arcades into one of the co-op maps, it'll boot to the multiplayer menu."
Get into't bother trying to hunt pull down the access, though. Not even Phillips has information technology written pile anymore. The developer did hand IT to a friend, erst—but the suggestion that Homefront included all of TimeSplitters 2 was apparently indeed unbelievable that a Disagree server banned their account.
"The unlock code has been perplexed to time, I don't have the notebook with it in any Thomas More. I once gave it to a friend to leak in whatsoever Discord channel and they called him a liar and prohibited his account."
Unfortunate, likewise, considering THQ Nordic has nobelium plans to remaster the 2002 classic. But if you're looking for a Timesplitters fix, fan-formed throwback mod Timesplitters Rewind is allay ticking along quietly in its aim to modernise all three original games.
Now that it's public knowledge, let's promise much enterprising hacker butt finally unlock the 4K remaster we deserve tucked away inside Homefront.
